LMX2820: About LMX2820 Instant Calibration

Part Number: LMX2820

Hello E2E Experts,

Instant calibration mode can be used to shorten the lock time. However, when I need to change the frequency in 1 MHz steps within the 10 GHz to 20 GHz range, can I use this mode?

I am not sure if the initial settings in Instant Calibration provide the VCO core (VCO_SEL), band (VCO_CAPCTRL), and amplitude (VCO_DACISET) for each frequency I require.

Regards,

TICSC

  • Hi There,

After the PLL is locked, changing the frequency by 1MHz does not need any kind of calibration. However, if the accumulated frequency change reach 100MHz (approx.), then a vco calibration has to be taken.

InstCal requires an one-time calibration. After that, changing frequency does not need calibration, the required VCO_SEL, CAPCTRL and DACISET value is automatically applied to the device.
