LMK04906: Phase noise test method

My customer is going to use the LMK04906 system clock in ultrasound scaner and will provide the clock to the CW module. Currently, customers want to measure the impact of phase noise on CW module performance of the LMK04906.

Could you provide some guidance on how to test? The customer has no experience in this area. In addition, the customer does not have a phase noise device, only a spectroscopic device. And we have LMK04906 EVM.

Hi Tony,

If they are able to measure the performance of the CW module, then they can compare the CW module performance using LMK04906 or a signal generator as the clock source.

OK, now the customer wants to determine the impact of phase noise on the CW module, so they want to test phase noise, do we have any test guidance documents? The CW module can only test the voltage floor noise and not see the phase noise of the clock chip. Thank you very much.

Hi Tony,

Phase noise measurement requires dedicated test equipment such as Keysight E5052 or R&S FSWP.
