LMK1C1106A: Jitter Specification

Part Number: LMK1C1106A

I'm considering the LMK1C1106APWR device to replace a device from another supplier that will not be available much longer.  I need to compare the jitter specifications from the 2 parts.  The LMK1C1106APWR datasheet specifies "Additive Jitter".  The other device specifies Cycle-to-cycle jitter and Period jitter.  How do these specs compare?  Can you supply Cycle-to-cycle jitter and Period jitter for the LMK1C1106APWR?

Thanks very much.

  • Hey Ralph,

What is the other device you are replacing? We spec additive RMS jitter because cycle to cycle jitter and period jitter would be too similar to our input to effectively measure on our equipment.

For your reference, additive jitter is done using a Phase Noise Analyzer, where cycle to cycle and period jitter are both on a scope. Additive jitter is a better measurement of the random noise the buffer adds.

    Thank you,

  • I'm replacing the Infineon/Cypress part CY23EP09SXI-1T.  How does TI's spec for Additive Jitter relate to Infineon's spec for Cycle-to-Cycle or Period Jitter?

    Thanks.

  • Hey Ralph,

As stated above we do not spec cycle to cycle or period jitter because it would be too similar to our input to accurately measure the jitter that the buffer adds, making it highly input dependent. There's not a way to correlate an additive jitter measurement with cycle to cycle jitter as the cycle to cycle is a measurement of the overall system's jitter.

    Thank you,
