BQ32000 clock source

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ32000

Hi, I have used BQ32000 in a circuit. I have used a 32.768kHz crystal as suggested. Is there any need to connect capacitors to the crystal? Or will the crystal simply work alone?

Currently I have connected the crystal alone and the Oscillator flag bit is set to 1.

If needed, what value of crystal should I use?

  • Yogesh,

The specifications for the crystal on listed under the "recommended operating" conditions on page 4 of the datasheeet.  There is also a footnote at the bottom of the page that gives a reference crystal as the KDS DMX-26S.  Datasheet is attached.

  • Hello Ryan Kehr sir,

The crystal that is suggested is not available locally. So I have used a 32.768kHz crystal that is available locally. In general for these crystals we use a ceramic low value capacitor. As in for a microcontroller, we connect a 33pF capacitor. Now is capacitor connection necessary on this board as well. Because in one of the BQ32000 related forum, I read about a 12.5 pF capacitor that is connected. (http://e2e.ti.com/support/clocks/f/48/t/167712.aspx)

Also could this be the sole reason for the OF = 1. During initialisation, I set it to 0 for the normal operation. But the read operation reads it as one.

Also can a 1k pullup resistor be used instead of 4.7k?
