CDC Programming EVM installation problems

Hello !

I have just got my new CDC Programming EVM in order to program a CDCE925. I have severe problems in installing the software in a proper way. In the User Manual is said that there shall be an accompanying CD. There is no CD in the package.

The manual suggest those steps:

1. Connect the EVM with the PC with a 2.0 USB cable.    OK so far.

2. Install the driver software using the provided CD-ROM.    Which driver?  I have tried with the ones I can find at TI's home page for TI3410, USB

3. The EVM is now running and completely powered through USB. The LED’s D2 (3.3 V) and D3 (1.8 V) 

indicate the availability of the supply voltages.     OK, lamps are OK but......

4. Programming the device is also possible using the TI ClockPro dedicated software.   Did ALSO mean, that there are other software(s) to use as well?

I tried to download TI CLOCK PRO and install. When I run it did not find the USB on the EVM.

I have tried to install different USB-drivers for TI3410 without any success. Can anyone give me some advice how to solve this?

 

N.B. I run on an old XP-machine. On Windows 7 I have not managed to install TI Clock Pro.

    Hello Julian !

    Thank you for your advice. Unfortunately it did not work. I have tried on three different machines with different OS (Windows 7/64 bit, Windows XP and Windows 98) but none of them accepts this driver to the board. When I attach the board the machine says that it searches for a driver for a "TUSB3410 Boot device". When I point to the directory where I have unzipped SCAC131 and press NEXT then I got the message that it was not possible to find a driver for the attached unit. So no installtion is done.

    So if you understand something of this I will be pleased for any help.

    Hi Bo-Lennart,

    it seems, that the EEPROM on the programming EVM is not programmed correctly.

    Please follow this instruction:6644.TUSB3410 EEPROM Burner Installer.zip

    • install driver from the attached zip file.
    • execute eepromburner.exe
    • select "TI TUSB3410 EEPROMBurner” and a eeprom size of 64kbits (this is important!!!)
    • click on browse and search for cdcproevm.bin from the zip file
    • click once on Programm EEPROM and wait a few seconds till a window pops up that says 'programming success full'
    • close eepromburner software and reconnect EVM
    • install driver from the previous post if needed

    Hello Julian !

    I followed your advices, and know it seems that the right driver is installed. I get a COM-port named CDCE(L)9xx_FAMILY_EVM - Serial Port (COM24). When I attach the EVM-board and starts NI:s MAX then I can connect the EVM board and check COM24 as 9600, 8N1 and validate it "Succesfully opened a VISA session to "ASRL 24::INSTR". All of the parameters on this page are valid. So far so good.

    I have installed the LabView version of TI clockpro. I put in a chip in the holder on the EVM as said in the user manual. Attach the EVM to USB on the PC. Both red LEDS lit. Starts TI Clock Pro. Selects on the first menu CDCE925. See CDCE925 selected. Press OK. On the new menu selects fin: 24 MHz, Y1: 24 MHz, Y2: 12 MHz, Y3 : 24 MHz, Y4 :72 MHz, Y5: 72 MHz. Then presses Run Prog Assistant. The Activity level indicator goes blue. PLL1 and PLL2  (fvco = 126 MHz) etc shows text that seems OK. Up in the upper right corner, there is a symbol in red, with lines and symbolc S:es. It seems to me as a "broken line". What I try now is to press key Write EEPOM. Activity goes blue for a while. I take out the chip, solder it to my board and finds that it is not programmed. When I during the expected programming phase checks SCL/SDA with my oscilloscope they are both high all the time.

    Do you have any suggestion what I have done wrong?

    Are there any user manual for the TI clock Pro? I have tried to find any on TI:s webpage without success.

    Hello Bo-Lennart,

    The "Run Prog Assistant" just works with the Performance EVM. Please install the latest version of TIClockPro and open "Tools -> Programming EVM" and click on find boards to program the devices with the programming EVM.

    Dear Julian !

    Thank you very much for your support. I have succeded in programming my first CDCE925 getting the expected frequencies out of it. Now I will proceed and program the rest chips for the prototype series I am working with. It looked a little dark in the beginning, but with your continuing advices I came to a lucky end.

    I have a problem with my CDC Programming EVM. Drivers are installed correctly. The TiClock Pro can not find any boards. My operating system is Windows XP.
