one shot using the NE555 timer

I am using the NE555N timer and the best I can get out of it is a 10usecond one-shot.

Even disconnecting the capacitor between pin 6 and ground still operates at a

steady 10useconds.

I've changed the resistor and capacitor values to as low as 300ohms and 470pF and

it still operates at a minimum of 10useconds.

What is the best chip for a <1usecond one-shot?
