CDCE62005

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CDCE62005

The CDCE62005 is rated at industrial temperature range of -40 to 85. May I know this temperature range refer to what? case temperature, junction temperature, die temperature, ambient temperature?

  • I think that for all devices, temperature is specified for junction.

  • This temperature range of -40 to 85 deg C is an ambient temperature specification.  Junction temperature is specified as an abs max of 125 deg C (see page 12 of datasheet).

    Knowledge of...

    • maximum ambient temperature in environment (limited to 85 deg C)
    • max junction temperature
    • package thermal characteristics AND board thermal characteristics (both of these together give theta-JA, datasheet theta-ja assumes a standard JEDEC test board.  Please note that the JEDEC test boards are not optimized thermal dissipation, they are used for benchmark testing).  Ideally you will be able to improve on the JEDEC theta-ja number in your design if required.

All these items allow a user to calculate how much heat dissipation will occur and therefore how much power the device may safely dissipate.  Junction temperature = Ambient + Power Dissipation * Theta_JA_for_YOUR_BOARD.
