LMK04816B EVM not workin

Hello Ramakrishna,

As you report, the device is working, the OSCout buffered output is operating which is a power on reset default.

You mentioned following the instructions, this the troubleshooting instructions on page 20 to 21 of the CodeLoader instructions?  (http://www.ti.com/litv/pdf/snau083).

  > Based on your troubleshooting, I expect there is a configuration issue with the LPT port and not a problem with the board.  To debug programming issues...

Until you have the programming working, from the "Bits/Pins" tab I recommend toggling the POWERDOWN bit while observing power supply current or changing the LD_TYPE control between "Output Enabled..." and "Output Enabled Inverted..." while watching for the LD LED to toggle.

  > What operating system/service pack are you using?

  > On the "Port Setup" tab, ensure that LPT is selected.

  > Ensure that the proper port address is selected by LPT1/LPT2/LPT3/Other buttons.  You may try clicking "Other" and typing the LPT address in directly (in hex without leading 0x).  What is your LPT address?

  > Click "LPT/USB" from the top menu, then "Check LPT" does this return success?

  > Can you confirm that the LPT port is set for a simple Normal/Output/AT mode set in the BIOS?  If none of those modes are available, try ECP.  Don't use EPP.

If the above items don't work, we did re-release CodeLoader recently, there may be a mistake in the new install?  Did you just recently download this CodeLoader?

Thanks for your reply. I did try all the things you suggested. I didn't see any response from the board at all.

I am using windows XP and I looked in the device manager to make sure the printer port (LPT1) is at 378. I tried all the ports (LPT1,2,3) and also typed in the address manually with no luck. I measured all the voltages on the board (VCC is +5V) and output from the LDO is 3.3 V and also measured Vcc aux which is also 3.3 V.

I also tried Reset and Power Down option under Bits, but didn't notice any difference.

I downloaded code loader 2 days ago. Parallel port is working fine because I tested CDCM7005 Eval board using the same computer to make sure.

I tried to look at the signals using a scop on the uwire connector and the data is high all the time and didn't see any transactions on the other signals (LE, CLK etc.). When I tried this, I disconnected it from the board and used load device command to see, if code loader is doing anything. I will try to look at the LPT configuration, but running out of things to try.

 (1) When you clicked "LPT/USB" --> "Check LPT"; What was the result?

 (2) You mentioned you will try checking the LPT configuration; this is the Normal/ECP/EPP type configuration in BIOS?

 (3) After checking #1 above.  Please find attached an older install.

CDCM7005 Eval may use a different LPT driver.  I think there could be a driver issue; either with the new install or with the Normal/ECP/EPP LPT config in BIOS.  Normal (also called AT, Output, etc) preferred.  #2 option ECP.

Hi Timothy,

when I click "LPT/USB"--> "Check LPT" it comes up with "Successfully opened LPT driver. This does not confirm proper selection of LPT port".

I rebooted the computer and tried programming again, this time the "Holdover LED" is on all the time. I tried looking at the signals on the scope(LE, DATA, CLK etc) and they are all in high state. I tried to toggle the power down bit, but didn't see any change in the current (it was 300 mA from the supply). I will try the older version of code loader and see if it changes anything.

older version of the code loader did the trick. I uninstalled the latest version and installed the one  you attached in your previous reply and it worked as soon as I loaded it. I can see the lock detect LED and was able to toggle the power down bit and see the supply current go down to 16 mA from 300 mA. It is working the way it is supposed to and it's great. We were able to do the measurements and it's performance is better than CDCM7005 for our target frequency.

Ok, that means something got broke in the installer for the new version.  I apologize for the problem & inconvenience.  We'll work to straighten this issue out.  Thanks for your feedback.

Hi guys,

I just wasted 2 days on this. My 4906 eval board was not working with the latest version of Codeloader software. 4.6.1

What didn't work was "codeloader 4.6.1 program version 4.7.1"

What did work eventually was "codeloader 4.6.1 program version 4.6.1"

But in order to get it to work I had to remove Codeloader and associated DLLs with the control panel.

Just installing the older version did not work.

Also guys your help could be better organised - there are throwaway comments all through your literature which add to a sense of confusion. Advice like set LPT to AT and  use admin access could all have been in the same place. Also It would be good to know how many times you have to reboot your machine before the software starts to work - by reckoning it is at least 4 times - is that right ?  Once to install the software, once to update the bios to AT, and it seems twice after pressing check lpt.
