Clock transfer from digital to analog domain

Hi everybody

I am designing a DAC stage that will be used together with a DSP. The system master clock is generated in the digital domain, hence it is referenced to digital ground. My DAC is completely referenced to the analog ground. I need to implement a clean way of transferring the master clock from the digital domain to the analog domain, in order to avoid excess jitter caused by voltage differences between digital and analog ground.

Could you please suggest a suitable component for this a task, such as a differential line driver, some kind of transformer, or an optical device? Which method is the best?

I only need one input and one output.

I suggest a differential clock driver (and differential clock receiver, if your DAC does not have differential clock input).

Do you only need one clock, or multiple clocks?

For a single LVDS driver, you can consider DS90LV011A.

For a differential 1:4 LVDS fanout, you can consider CDCLVD1204.

Hi Alan,

Thank you for your help. I will try a differential driver/receiver solution. I only need one clock to be transferred, so I guess the DS90LV011A will do the trick.

By the way, what are the drawbacks by simply using an RF transformer for this task?

RF transformers or baluns can also work for applications that don't need dc coupling.
