CDCM6208 cascade connetion

Hi,

Two clock generator CDCM6208#1 and CDCM6209#2 are supposed.

which connection is better?

[1]. CDCM6208#1 out (50Mhz) -> CDCM6208#2 in  - CDCM6208#2 out-> DSP

[2]. 50MHz OSC -> CDCM6208#1 and CDCM6208#2 -> DSP

I mean [1] is cascaded and [2] is parallelized.

Are there any restrictions if two CDCM6208 is cascaded (Case [2])?

If no restrictions, how many devices can we use in cascade connections?

Regards,

  • Hi,

    Parallel approach is preferred over cascading. Cascading PLLs could potentially result in jitter peaking if the loop bandwidths of the PLLs line up. If you absolutely wish to go with cascading, select the loop bandwidth of the first CDCM6208 as wide as possible to benefit from the close in phase noise of the reference XO and the second CDCM6208 loop bandwidth narrower to prevent any jitter peaking.
