Hi Tiziano,

If you read the paragraph titled "POWER-DOWN/POWER-UP CYCLE" on page 13, you will that you while it seems you can use this chip without the external SRAM you will lose our on the backup capabilities of the device on a proper power failure function. The BC pin should be connected to a battery to allow the SRAM to run and for backup. If you don't want to have the device perform a save function then you can simply not connect a battery to pin BC and not connect a SRAM device. However, like I said the device will just turn off when power is no longer provided and no SRAM information will be saved nor the RTC will be run. Hope this helps.
