Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMX2592

Hi,

I want to analyse a pll structure (using LMX2592) by including reference oscillator phase noise. It will be single ended OCXO. I am trying to include absolute phase noise of this OCXO to the analysis. I have some feedbacks and questions about the software:

1. How can I import phase noise parameters from text file?

2. Are there any documentation that explains definition and format of noise metrics?

3.  Content of "Phase noise decomposition" and its relation with noise metrcis should be clarified.

Thank you,

Mustafa

  • Hi Mustafa,

Thank you for your interest in our products. We received your question and will be answering it as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience.

  • Mustafa,

    1. and 2.

The built-in help in the program addresses all these questions.   To use this, click on the question mark in the small box in the "OSC, PLL, and VCO" noise section.

    3.

Many of these metrics are described in the help section.   There are also other references such as AN-1879, datasheets, or the book entitled "PLL Performance, Simuation, and Design"

In general, selecting the filter shows the loop filter resistor noise.  Slecting the VCO shows the VCO 1/f^3, VCO 1/f^2, and noise floor, selecting the PLL shows the figure of merit and 1/f noise, and selecting the op amp for an active filters hows the op amp noise.

    1. How can I import phase noise parameters from text file?

    1. Copy to clipboard two columns of X/Y data from excel, or the data from a tab delimited file.
    2. Click the "Enter Custom Phase Noise for Reference or VCO/VCXO" button.
    3. Click on the grid in the pop-up window.  Press Ctrl-V to paste data in.
    4. Press "Set custom phase noise" button in pop-up window.
