Hello,

I decided to buy this chip with its EVM, and have a few questions on CDCE72010 :

1). what will be its VCXO-in frequency on the EVM PCB ? and then what will be the requirements on PRI-REF-P / PRI-REF-N freq range, etc. ?

2). since output clocks are divided replica of VCXO-in, then if PRI-REF has different freq, how is output synchronized to PRI-REF if they are at different freq ? ( I can think of one edge of these two are aligned with respect to each other, and then the next edge will have some offset - so probably not really sync-ed ?)

The VCXO mounted on the EVM is TCO-2111T 491.52 MHz Epson Toyocom

The default device EEPROM configuration can be found in the datasheet (Page 23) : http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/cdce72010.pdf

The primary reference frequency is 10 MHz (LVCMOS)

The Phase detector frequency is operating at a factor of the reference and VCXO. In the default case it is set to 0.08 MHz (10 MHz / 125 = 491.52 / 8 / 768)

Thank you for the info.

So if I design a circuit myself using CDCD72010 without using the same frequency selection of its EVB, then what will be the frequency relationship requirement for VCXO and PRI-REF, in order to get a particular output frequency ?

The relationship between the selected VCXO frequency and reference frequency on PRI-REF should be such that:

VCXO / (P divider* N Divider) = PRI_REF / M Divider
