LMX2592 fast calibration?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMX2592

Dear Brian and Dean

Are there any considerations that I need to be aware of when using fast calibration? Are there different considerations for fast amplitude and fast frequency calibration? Are there any circumstances where it would be inadvisable to use fast calibration? Can I enable fast calibration by default?

Thanks

John

  • Hi John,

Thanks for your interest in our products. Our applications team is looking into this and will get back to you.

    Regards,

  • Please can we have a datasheet which details the fast calibration mode and how to use it? I would like to use the LMX2592 to change frequency in approximately 50uS, please can you help?
  • John,

The datasheet is continuously going through edits, and calibration will have more helpful description. The fast calibration bits FCAL_FAST and ACAL_FAST basically lets the algorithm search in steps of FJUMP_SIZE and AJUMP_SIZE, respectively. By default they search in steps of 1. Amplitude calibration is the longest portion of the time. So making AJUMP_SIZE large and then FAST_ACAL=1 helps. There are other registers that are continuously opened up, which can be tweaked to shorten calibration time to further extents, for example setting where the calibration algorithm starts once you know your target frequency or turning off amplitude calibration altogether and just pick an amplitude. These will appear first in our software GUI: TICS PRO, to allow you to try the features first. The datasheet update will follow behind to reflect these new additions.

  • Hi Brian

Thanks for the information. When is the next version of TICS PRO which uses these features going to be available?

    Thanks

    John

  • John,

The version online now is the version that has those features in the GUI.

  • Hi Brian
Thanks for letting me know, I will put an 'alert me' on that software!
