Excel document to convert Phase noise data to Allan Variance...

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMX2582

Good Afternoon,

I am looking for an excel document that converts phase noise data for oscillators (or Phase Locked Loops e.g. LMX2582 etc.) to Allan Variance.

The weblink used to be located here: (ftp://ftp.ti.com/pub/data_acquisition/.../Allan_Variance/noise.xls) but it is no longer working.

Are you familiar with this document or do you know where I can locate it?

Thanks so much for your time,

-Amanda

  • Hello,

I've used this Excel based calculator to convert phase noise to jitter (if Allan Variance is a similar thing?) based on your frequency start / stop end points:

This is also another tool from the same folks which runs on the desktop:

Also, you may have seen the Clock Architect tool on Webench as well which allows you to compute jitter by plugging in phase noise (dBc/Hz) data:

    Regards,

    Hooman

  • Hey Hooman,

Thanks so much for your response but I believe jitter and Allan Variance are a little different. They both seem to be methods for understanding your deviations in frequency but Allan Variance is more statistically based.

Have you ever heard of this document or would you know of someone I could ask?

    Thanks for your time,
    -Amanda
  • wenzel.com has a spreadsheet for calculating Allan Variance from phase noise data.
