LMK04828: Power Consumption Question

Part Number: LMK04828

Hi, I am trying to calculate power consumption for each Vcc Pin of the LMK04828.  Section 11 and Table 84 of the data sheet are helpful but I find some gaps.

Specifically what is the current consumption of PLL1 and CP1 on Vcc6? I see holdover currents on the same pin have values given.

Also looking for PLL2 Charge Pump Current on Vcc9 and PLL2 Current on Vcc10 please.  Are these bundled up in any of the currents given in Table 84?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

  • Hello JonD,

I have some sim worst case data that reports

Vcc6_PLL1 sim max of 27 mA for two clkin buffers enabled; Ext VCO/Fin disabled; PLL1 FPD = 40 MHz, Icp=1.6 mA; Track and Holdover enabled.

Turning on Ext VCO/Fin increases this number to 38 mA.

I have measured data that shows powering down PLL1 (PLL1_PD = 1) results in total current decrease of ~25 mA, most of that current I'd expect to be via Vcc6_PLL1 pin.

Sim max on Vcc9_CP2 = 19 mA with 155 MHz FPD and 3.2 mA.

Sim max on Vcc10_PLL2 = 72 mA with PLL2 and PLL1 N div/R div enabled.  PLL1 NDLY and RDLY are enbabled with max delay.  FBMUX is enabled;  based on these conditions, it seems that there are some PLL1 things on PLL2, but not commonly used.  But it does say some PLL1 Icc in my ~25 mA total savings probably comes on this pin to as it mentions PLL1 N div and R div.

    My measured data says powering down PLL2 (PLL2_PD = 1, PLL2_PRE_PD = 1) saves 44 mA.

I've attached an xls file which may also help you, but doesn't have pin break-down Icc.  icc quick calculator, TT-2016-04-27_e2e.xlsx
