LMK03328: LMK03328 free run

Part Number: LMK03328
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CODELOADER

Hi TI,

Is it possible to use LMK03328 without reference clock(free run mode) ?

My customer need a output clock when the reference clock was stopped.

If the device work wothout reference clock, Please let me know the register settings.

I have a EVM and checkd it, O could not generate a output clock without reference clock.

  • Try clearing the output channels' AUTO MUTE bits and  AUTO MUTE LEVEL bit settings (to 0) in Bits/Pins page of codeloader.

Note that free running VCO does not provide good frequency stability and close-in phase noise, so you should lock the PLL/VCO to a free running XTAL if possible.

  • Alan, thank you very much for your help.

I've detected the output clock if  reference clock was stpopped,  thanks,

Well, If  there is no reference clock from the power up sequence of the device(LMK03328),

still I cannot detect a output clock.

Please let me know , how to enable the output clock without reference clock from start up of the device ?

  • Program the EEPROM with the auto mute settings I mentioned  and power-cycle the chip.  See EEPROM programming flow in LMK03328 EVM Software user’s guide.
