LMX2571: Can LMX2571 output a sine wave?

Part Number: LMX2571

Hello,

I've gone through and through the LMX2571 spreadsheet and, although it is clearly stated that the chip can receive a sine wave input signal (section 8.1.2), I cannot seem to find any reference to whether the specific chip can actually also output a sine wave at the desired frequency.

My application requires a configurable sine wave signal output, swept along specific frequency domains between 50MHz to approximately 1 GHz with at least 1 kHz resolution. I have come across a DDS IC from other developers that can provide this functionality, but it is inappropriate due to size and power budget constraints. LMX2571 hence seemed as the ideal solution.

If it is indeed incapable of providing this function, is there perhaps some other part that may provide this?

Thanks,

Vasileios

  • Vasileios,
The output of the LMX2571 is either push-pull or open collector. At low frequencies, this looks more like a square wave. If you want a sine wave, I think that you would need to use the external VCO option or use a device with an external VCO.
