CLOCKDESIGNTOOL: CLOCKDESIGNTOOL latest version

Part Number: CLOCKDESIGNTOOL
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMK04828, PLLATINUMSIM-SW

What is the latest version of CLOCKDESIGNTOOL? On the web it is 1.3.5 but I have 1.3.6 and 1.3.7 versions installed on my computers. Why the current version is 1.3.5? I need to design a filter for LMK04828. What tool is recommended? I need to use custom phase noise table for the input clock

  • Hello,

I back-revved the version because there were some issues with the solver providing the correct divider values for desired input frequencies in some cases and we've not put any development effort into this recently.  In the meantime the Clock Architect tool has added important features such as the ability to load custom phase noise plots (as you need).

The one tricky item on Clock Architect today is to change the VCXO frequency of a dual loop device, you must change the VCO frequency for PLL1 Loop Filter and also the Phase Detector frequency for the PLL2 Loop filter as desired.  This can be done after clicking the 'Advanced' button on the loop filter tabs.

Please consider using the Clock Architect web tool.

  • Thanks Timothy,
I tried the Clock Architect and it has very limited functionality for LMK04828 compare to CLOCKDESIGNTOOL. I do not need to solve the divider values. I want to optimize the loop filters for both PLLs in LMK04828. Are there any known issues for filter and phase noise calculation in CLOCKDESIGNTOOL rev 1.3.5, 1.3.6 and 1.3.7? Would it be possible to download the 1.3.7 rev? I lost the installation file
  • No, known loop filter design issues. However v1.3.5 supports LMK04828 and should serve you well.
I'm not sure what I can do to distribute you other versions as we have official channels.

Since new development hasn't gone into the Clock Design Tool, one thing I'd like to do is add the LMK devices to the PLLatium Sim tool (pllatinumsim-sw) which as of today is an advance loop filter calculator for LMX devices.
