LMX2592EVM: LMX2592EVM runs hot?

Part Number: LMX2592EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMX2592,

Just powered up an LMX2592EVM fresh out of the box.  Is it normal for the LMX2592 itself to run hot?   As in too hot to hold a finger on and a bit of the classic hot epoxy smell.   It's drawing under 250 mA and seems to respond to register reads/writes.

Thanks for your help.

  • Hi Heinrich,

That is normal, it is hot to the touch of finger on the standard EVM. When put in actual board designed with thicker copper layer, more thermal via on DAP, and higher layer counts, among other thermal design strategies, you can lower the thermal theta(JC) with heat dissipating out to the board quicker, and which should drop the case temperature as well.
