Suggest a Pre Programmed and re programmable Clock synthesizer

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMK03328, LMK03318, USB2ANY, CDCM6208

Hi,

We are looking for a clock synthesizer of following specs:

1. Pre Programmed using TI Programmer Jig and Software

2. Min 8 to 10 nos of LVDS Clock outputs until 700MHz

3. Re programming of Output values using I2C or SPI Interfaces

4. Dual Input options

We had used a Silicon Lab's part SI5338N-B-GM in couple of designs. It is a 4 output clock synthesizer which can be one time pre-programmable using their own application + it can also be re programmed through SPI Interface. We want similar device with 8 to 10 outputs. Please suggest if you have any recommendations.

Regards,

Vijetha

  • Hi Vijetha,

I recommend the LMK03328 or LMK03318. This device family meets all of your requirements:

-Programmable non-volatile EEPROM (up to 100 cycles), programmable in system over I2C bus using TI USB2ANY USB to I2C adapter
-8 universal outputs supporting LVDS up to 800MHz
    -Direct register re-programming over I2C
-Dual inputs, including crystal support on secondary input

The LMK03328 features 2 PLLs and the LMK03318 features 1 PLL so you can choose depending on the frequency plan you wish to implement.

    Regards,
    -Tim
  • Thank You for the suggestions.

Is there any part with VDD_DIG (Digital VDD) @ 1.8V level ? This IC has 3.3V Digital supply.

Our Controller supports 1.8V IOs. Worst Case we may use Translators. But if there is any 1.8V Digital IO devices, that is most preferred.

    Vijetha

  • Also tell us how to pre-program it (Hardwares and softwares required)
  • Hi Vijetha,

Unfortunately we don't have any clock generators that satisfy all of your requirements and run at a 1.8V input voltage.

The closest alternative would be the CDCM6208 which does accept 1.8V; however, this clock generator does not have built in EEPROM so you need to either use a frequency plan that is included in one of the pre-loaded ROM pages or program the device over I2C/SPI at every device power on.

See this page to narrow down our portfolio of clock generators based on your requirements:

  • Hi,

Yes we selected CDCM6208 in the design earlier. Now The FPGA demands for pre programmed clock for few interfaces.
Ok we will look into LMK03328 in detail. We will get back to you if there is any further query.
