LMX2594: LMX2594 harmonics

Part Number: LMX2594

Dear Team,

My customer considers the LMX2594 for a very wideband design covering from 2GHz-15GHz.

The harmonic at low frequencies are very strong. They have measured 3rd harmonic of -12dBc with f_out=2GHz.

1. Is this indeed what they should expect ?

2. Is there any trick we can use to reduce the 2nd and 3rd harmonics at low frequencies ?

3. Is there any change on the harmonic performance if they use it without the output dividers ? (VCO only on the output)

4. Any additional tip or trick you would be appreciated.

Best regards,

Nir.

  • Dear Nir,

Harmonic are expected and will tipically increase at lower frequency as the output buffer can swing more and signal look like a square wave.

You may play with the output power setting for some improvement.

The output on this device is always 50/50 duty cycle and harmonic will vary depending on the frequency. Improving spectral purity will require external filtering.

    Regards, Simon.
