LMK04808BEVAL: problems with the eval boards

Part Number: LMK04808BEVAL

Hi,

we bought 2 of the LMK04816 boards and 2 of the LMK04808 boards couple of years ago

both LMK04816 boards are still fine and functional and are installed in our lab for some testing for the last couple of years. No issues with these boards

Then we ordered LMK04808 boards for difference VCO range and they were tested fine when we bought them. They haven't been used in a while and when we tried to use it yesterday, both boards are not responsive. They are acting as if they are dead. Would it be possible to replace the chip on these boards. We would like to try it on one of the boards and see, if something is wrong with the clock chip. One thing I would like to know is, if these chips can be removed or not. If these chips are glued to the board, then it would be tough to get them off. Will someone please let us know, how these chips were installed on the boards. We have a QFX machine that we can use to get these off, but not of they are glued. Otherwise these two boards we bough ($600) are useless and weren't expecting from the boards that haven't been used much

Thanks in advance,

Ramakrishna

  • Hello Ramakrishna,

Sorry to here that the boards are not functional.
It is possible to replace the units on the boards.
The units are QFN package with a ground pad at the bottom which is soldered to the PCB. By heating the board from the bottom and blowing hot air from top, the unit can be replaced. If your machine is capable of doing that, you can easily remove the unit.

    Best regards
