LMX2492EVM: Synchronize Two LMX2492EVM

Part Number: LMX2492EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMX2492, LMX2594

Hi All,

Dean addressed this in another thread (https://e2e.ti.com/support/clocks/f/48/p/592235/2240043#2240043)

but I would like to synchronize two LMX2492EVMs.

I need the synthesizers to start with a consistent phase when provided with the same reference clock and configured with the same settings.

Dean mentioned that if they are started in fractional mode then there are undisclosed 'seed' registers that contribute to a random initial phase.

He also said that if started in integer mode, the synths would end with the same phase.

Would it be possible to start both boards in integer mode and switch to fractional mode after locking to ensure they have the same phase?

Are there any other suggestions for guaranteeing the same phase each time the boards are switched on?

Kind Regards

Darryn

  • Darryn,

The LMX2492 does not have the features to be synchronized. Have you looked into the LMX2594 which has a function specifically for synchronizing multiple synthesizers together. Does this part fit your application?
