NE555: Inductor Oscillator and Timing

I know this is not a usual application for the 555 timer but I would like to build an inductance meter and I wasn't sure if the 555 timer could be used for an oscillator with an inductor that could be used with a frequency counter to make a inductance meter so if anyone has a simple way to make a 555 timer inductor oscillator could you post it?

Or you could apply a signal with a known frequency and amplitude (could be done with 555 with a +/- error in mind) to an inductor and use that as a method to measure the inductance.

Handy,

Do as Mike suggested or there are many other circuits to measure inductance. The 555 doesn't work with inductors directly.
Try web search for "inductance meter schematic" for example to see other ways.
