LMX2594: Phase noise plot < 100 Hz offset to carrier

Part Number: LMX2594

Hello!

We work in the weather radar business and use the frequency range 9.3 GHz - 9.5 GHz.

Our radar coherency mainly depends on the phase noise of sythesizers very next to the carrier.

Did somebody measure the phase noise of the LMX2594 at 9 GHz and at smaller offset than 100 Hz?
Can somebody provide data or plots?
We usually compare the 10 Hz offset phase noise.

Thank you in advance!

Best regards,
Jochen

  • Hi Jochen,

Unless your reference clock is extremely clean, the phase noise between 10Hz to 100Hz will be dominated by the reference clock. We used to use a 100MHz clock from Wenzel. This clock has extremely low phase noise and therefore we are able to measure the 1/f noise of our devices.

in the datasheet, we have a typ. plot at 9GHz, which you can see the 1/f noise at 100Hz offset.

I did an interpolation, the 1/f noise at 10Hz is close to -80dBc/Hz.
