LMX2592: Is LMX2592 factory programmed to give some output

Part Number: LMX2592
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: USB2ANY, , LMK61E2, TIDA-00626, MSP430F5529

respected,

i am working on TIDA-00626 which is incorporated with LMX2592. I dont have USB2ANY to program the clock oscillator LMK61E2 or LMX2592. I have a concern that are these components factory programmed to give some amplified output or is it necessary to program those IC's. due to unavailability of USB2ANY i am looking for a resource to program those IC's with launch pad of MSP432P401R. please guide us on how to proceed with the same

  • Dear Pratik,

USB2ANY is not available by itself but since you are working with LMX2592, I recommend you to order LMX2592 EVM that will come with USB2ANY board and all needed cabling.

    Regards, Simon.
  • i am actualy developing TIDA-00626 reference design of TI and for the same i need to know that without any initial programming will i get any output are the registers of LMX2592 factory programmed for certain output. we are low on budget so cant purchase any EVM please help resolve my issue
  • Hello Pratik,

Thank you for following up. I understand your question. LMX2592 is a high performance synth and will need programming to start. Once you power up the device, you will need to program registers and trigger calibration for the VCO to calibrate and the PLL to engage dynamic lock.

We have other devices that will power up at a known frequency, This is not one of them.

    I hope this helps,

    Regards, Simon.
  • ok. and as describe in the design guide i need USB2ANY to program the register. but in the design guide they also mention that we can program it using MSP430F5529 launch pad. but we do not have that similar launch pad but we have MSP432P401R launch pad can you provide us a guide on how to program LMX2592 with MSP432P401R launch pad
  • Dear Pratik,

The EVM kit for LMX2592 is prepared with USB2ANY which uses a MSP430. This solution comes with a ready to use software for PC (you can doanload from ti.com) to facilitate the evaluation of LMX2592. Other micro controller can be used but we do not provide the development service. The communication to the LMX2592 is a standard SPI interface and hence any microcontroller or FPGA or microprocessor can be used to program the LMX2592. Figure 1 on page 9 of the datasheet provides the timing information for the SPI.

    I hope this helps,

    Regards, Simon.
  • RESPECTED,
thank you for your kind reply but as i said we are on a very beginner level and do not know how to use MSP432P401R launch pad and hence any help from TI engineeres will be helpfull
  • Dear Pratik,

I would recommend to look at the MSP430 support material and the SPI interface is likely already implement in this device. That would be an excellent place to start.

    Regards, Simon.
