CDCM6208V1F: About current consumption

Part Number: CDCM6208V1F
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CDCM6208

Hi all.

I would know the current consumption of CDCM6208.
I found the following "Helpful Note" in datasheet P.16,
The CDCM6208 User GUI does an excellent job estimating the total device current consumption based on the actual device configuration. Therefore, TI recommends using the GUI to estimate device power consumption.

Is GUI CDCM6208EVM GUI?
I got the GUI and confirm the current consumption function, but I couldn't know the function.

Sorry, what do you mean the "Helpful Note"?
Do you recommend to measure actual data by using EVM and GUI?

Best Regards,
Sho

  • Hi Sho
You do not need to measure the current or connect the software to EVM. Just start the software and select the device. It will show you the estimated current consumption on the GUI. You can either use CDCM6208 software or TICSpro.
Let me know if you see any issue.

  • Hi Puneet san

    Thank you for your reply.
Sorry, I don't know how to calculate the current consumption by GUI.
    Which software do you recommend?
I found three software in your web site.
    -CDCM6208 EVM Control GUI
    -CDCM6208 - Firmware Update Files
-Code for Programming the MSP403 on the CDCM6208 evaluation module.

I am using CDCM6208 EVM control GUI now.
Please tell me the calculation procedure.

If you can check, please tell me the following current consumption in two settings that I attached.
    Sorry for many check point.

    -VDD_PRI_REF
    -VDD_SEC_REF
    -DVDD
    -VDD_PLL1
    -VDD_PLL2
    -VDD_VCO
    -VDD_Y0_Y1
    -VDD_Y2_Y3
    -VDD_Y4_Y5
    -VDD_Y6
    -VDD_Y7

    Best Regards,
    Sho

  • Hi Sho

    Here it is:

You can also use TICSpro. This device is now available there and current consumption estimator is also available there.

  • Hi Puneet san

    Thank you for your reply.

What version is CDCM6208EVM software? My version is 3.24.
I can't see the Estimated Supply Current,,,,
    Did you connect to EVM?

I got TICS pro ver. 1.6.7. Is version latest?
Sorry, I can't find this device in TICS pro.
    Where is the CDCM6208?

I would like to get the following point current consumption.
    -VDD_PRI_REF
    -VDD_SEC_REF
    -DVDD
    -VDD_PLL1
    -VDD_PLL2
    -VDD_VCO
    -VDD_Y0_Y1
    -VDD_Y2_Y3
    -VDD_Y4_Y5
    -VDD_Y6
    -VDD_Y7

    Can you calculate?

    Best Regards,
    Sho

  • Hi Sho
I use the same CDCM6208 version like you used (3.24). In your case, some lined are clipped on the software interface. This can be due to the screen resolution. Can you change the screen resolution and check if you see the interface similar to what i posted?
Sorry, TICSpro update is not released yet, it will be on web very soon. We don't have a option for split current for individual supplies on those softwares, but it is easy to find by just enabling & disabling the blocks from the software to see how much current changes.
Please try changing the screen resolution, let me know if that does not work.
    Best regards
    Puneet
  • Hi Puneet san

Thank you for your quick response!
OK, I will try changing the screen resolution.
If that does not work, I will contact you.
    Just a moment please.

    Best Regards,
    Sho

  • Hi Puneet san

I tried changing the screen resolution, but estimated current consumption item is not showed on GUI.
My condition is GUI only, so I didn't connect to EVM.

By the way, when is new TICS pro released?

    Best regards,
    Sho

  • Hi Puneet san

Sorry for question to you again.
CDCM6208's  individual Supplies Measured Table is described in datasheet.
However PLL1, PLL2 and VCO current is total value only, it is the same with SEC and PRI.

So please tell me the each current consumption.
my customer would like to know input capacitance watt value to choice it at power rail.

    Best regards,
    Sho

  • Hi Puneet san

How about my question? Please help me, I am waiting your reply.

    Best Regards,
    Sho

  • Hello Sho
At the moment, i have char data which is measured in the same way like specified in the datasheet. I am trying to figure out the split current. Let me come back to you on that.
    Best regards
    Puneet
  • Hi Sho
I do not have further split current data. As our boards are also built in the same way, i cannot measure that.
I can provide you a pre-released TICSpro device profile. Please send me an email at clock_support@list.ti.com.
    Best regards
    Puneet
