NE555: How does the NE555 start? Is it a self-contained trigger function or does it require external input?

There is something wrong with our NE555 chip, we can't find any information about this specific topic online on the data sheets or schematics or any equivalent, any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Andrew,

    The power up state must be set by either reset, trigger or threshold pins being active to get desired output power-up state. If none are active at power up, the output usually starts low. However there is no guaranteed default power up state.
