NE555: Using 555 timer for ultrasonic transmitter

Hello, my name is Danny Morrow. I am looking to use the NE555 as a timer for an ultrasonic transmitter operating at a target frequency of 40 kHz. Would you be able to tell me if using this product will work for this purpose? I will also be designing an ultrasonic sensing circuit to receive the transmitted ultrasonic pulse.

    NE555 does work well at 40 kHz, the formulas on page 11 of the NE555 data sheet do not account for propagation delay, so use 44.57 KHz as the frequency when choosing the timing resistor and capacitor. This will result in close to 40 kHz when built. 

    Fnew = F * (1 + F / 350 kHz) = 40 kHz * ( 1 + 40 kHz / 350 kHz) = 44.57 kHz
