LMK04832: Clarification on datasheet section 9.1.3 Doubler

Part Number: LMK04832

In section 9.1.3 of the datasheet we see:

"For configuration where doubler cannot be used, it is recomended to use

Doubler and PLL2_RDIV=2."

Please clarify -> when doubler can't be used, use doubler? I'm having trouble interpreting what this statement means.

  • Hi Steve,
Doubler & RDIV=2 is a high performance path. That is why there is a recommendation in the datasheet. Now there is a max phase detector frequency spec in the datasheet. If your input frequency is high enough such that x2 is greater than the max phase detector frequency spec, doubler cannot be used. But now if you use doubler and then divide by 2, the max phase detector frequency will be again within spec.
    I hope it is clear.
    Best regards
