LMX2582: Minimum resolution in Output

Part Number: LMX2582

Hi,

I am using LMX2582 as a RF synthesizer to generate LO signal from 950 MHz to 1250 MHz.

I want IF tenability of 1MHz. Is it possible with this RF synthesizer?

If yes,Than want i have to do in setting to achieve this?

  • Shivakant,

This is absolutely possible. The LMX2582 denominator fractional denominator can be set to 1,2,3,...4294967295.  So if the phase detector is 20 MHz, I can use a fraction of 1/4000000000 to generate a VCO frequency of 5400.00000001 MHz exactly.

In your case, you could run the phase detector up at 200 MHz and set the fractional denominator equal to 200 and then you could tune the fractional numerator in steps of 1, and this will generate 1 MHz steps at the VCO.  In fact, after the VCO divider of 4 that I think that you will be using, you need only 4 MHz channel steps at the VCO.

See attached file for one way to make 1001 MHz

    Regards,

    Dean
