LMX2594: Interfacing LMX2594 to HMC661

Part Number: LMX2594

I need to give clock to HMC661 through LMX2594.

The datasheet of HMC661 states DC Differential Clock High Voltage should be between 20mV to 2000mV.

Similarly DC Differential Clock Low Voltage should be between -2000mV to -20mV.

Per port amplitude = -6 to 10dbm.

LMX2594 datasheet does not tell about output voltage levels. Rather it tells only output power in single ended mode. What about differential mode?

Can I use evaluation module of LMX2594 to connect it directly to HMC661 evaluation module?

  • Adeel,

The differential output voltage is twice the single-ended output voltage. The output power reported is single-ended assuming a 50 ohm load, i.e. 0 dBm = 0.6 Vpp.
I think that you can connect directly, but realize that the LMX2594 output is AC coupled, as it has to be due to the pull-up to Vcc. So if the MHC661 requires an external Bias, you might need to set up one, perhaps with a resistive divide.
