CDCLVD1204: Power Dissipation calculation and Tj max

Section 11.3 describes a current draw of 186mA and a supply voltage of 3.6V, 669.6mW

The part is rated 2.5V so this does not look like a correct example. The guidance provided indicates that the junction temperature can be 125C but that is not indicated elsewhere in the datasheet. What is the maximum operating junction temperature of the CDCLVD1204? Can the device reliably operate on a 105C PCB using the power dissipation calculation example with 200MHz operation/2.5V supply? If not, is there another 1:4 LVDS buffer that will?

Was section 11 incorrectly copied from another part? It doesn't seem correct.

  • I'm following Steve's question above (he's our FAE). I found CDCLVD1213 also suggests it can be used with 105C TPWB . However, the CDCLVD1213 thermal calculations make better sense. For example, they cite the 85mA max supply current listed earlier in the datasheet, and they correctly reflect the fact that it's a 2.5V powered device. However, just like the CDCLVD1204, the CDCLVD1213 doesn't list the max junction temperature as part of the specifications (it refers to it on page 15, similar to what the CDCLVD1204 did).

    So can you please also answer Steve's questions for the CDCLVD1213? Is it the case that the thermal example given in the CDCLVD1213 datasheet also applies to CDCLVD1204? I did find an e2e record (e2e.ti.com/.../2410277) that says TJMAX for CDCLVD1204 is 125C, and it appears the MTBF data were captured at 125C (although I don't know if that was TJ, TA, TPWB, etc.)?

    Thank you for your pointing out the error. Current CDCLVD12xx devices support 2.5V supply, not support 3.3V.
    These devices can support 105 C PCB and Tj 125 C.
