LMX2595EVM: The LMX2595EVM does not function normally and can not be correctly controlled by the TICS Pro software.

Part Number: LMX2595EVM

1) Writing output frequency by the software, it can't respond correctly. The VCO has output frequency but its frequency is fixed and uncontrolled. However, the functions of output amplitude, frequency division and frequency doubling are all normal.

2) Using the raw register function of the TICS Pro software to read back the register value but it is not equal to the value we wrote and is always 0x0000.

3) To verify whether the VCO is malfunctioning, we disconnect CPout and try to directly input Vtune voltage to control the output frequency of the VCO, but the VCO does not respond correctly.

4)We cannot find the control range of Vtune voltage with the VCO on Datasheet. If we want to design an external loop filter by ourself, we need relevant parameters.

  • Hi,

If you are using a TI EVM and haven't modified the board, for a quick sanity check, please hook up the board according to the user's manual, go to Ticspro -> "Default configuration" (in the tool bar) and load the latest default setting. Then toggle "FCAL_EN", you should see that the green LED on the board is on. The LED is connected to MUXout pin and indicates the lock status of the device. It's turned on when the PLL is locked.

Please get the board to lock first before diving into more details.

To readback registers, you need to change register "MUXOUT_LD_SEL" to "readback". To find this register, go to "User Controls" (Pane on the left) and this register is under "General Controls".

    Regards,
    Hao
