LMX2581: Output frequency and power consumption question

Part Number: LMX2581
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMX2571, LMX2572

Hi,

Customer's product need dual clock output 2.4Ghz and 1.2Ghz for RF chip. Does the lm2581 can meet their requirement ?

1. Is it possible output 2.4Ghz at RFOUTA and 1.2Ghz at REFOUTB? I think they can set Fvco to 2.4Ghz and Fvco/div to 1.2Ghz,then output to REFOUTA and REFOUTB separate. Is it right?

2. As second picture show the current consumption ICC = 178.  Is the ICC equal to ICCcore + ICCRFOUT?

If enable two channel REFOUT and enable divider, whether the ICC = ICCcore + 2*ICCREFOUT+ICCVCO_DIV? Power = 3.3*ICC?

3.Does TI have other product more suit for customer and lower power consumption?

Thanks

  • Hi Jeff,

Yes, LMX2581 supports 2.4GHz and 1.2GHz output simultaneously.

178mA is the total current with only one direct output enabled. An additional 20mA is needed if a VCO divider is enabled. In your use case, you should see close to 200mA current consumption.

We have low power synthesizers like LMX2571 and LMX2572, however, they cannot support 2.4GHz and 1.2GHz at the same time.
