LMK04803: Can the LMK04803 be configure as a jitter attenuator ?

Part Number: LMK04803

Hi,

This part is ideal for my application as I can use it to generate 1GHz, 2GHz and SYNC pulses. If I could reconfigure it as a reference jitter cleaner too that would be perfect. Is this possible?

  • Peter,

Yes, this can be used as a jitter cleaner.

For this, put a low noise VCXO for PLL1 and use that to attenuate the jitter.  Then PLL2 has a nice clean reference, determined by the VCXO noise,, and then you can make whatever frequency you want from this.

  • Hello,

Yes, any PLL can be a jitter attenuator.  Refer to the choosing PLL loop bandwidths document in files section for this e2e section.

Note that using dual loop mode allows using a VCXO to perform jitter cleaning / jitter attenuation.  This is the mode we typically refer to as jitter cleaning or jitter attenuator although a single loop mode (using VCO only) can do the job depending on your requirements.
