555 timer model error?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLC555, TINA-TI

I'm using TINA-TI v 7.0.80.96 and have been having major issues with any and all 555 timers when attempting simulations.  As a test, I recreated exactly the TINA-TI TLC555 component level reference astable example circuit and also had a problem: I was given an "operating point not found" when the simulation was run from the 'scope tool.   Another problem experienced in my own circuit was a failure of the astable oscillator to oscillate when run from the 'scope tool.

  • Hi William,

Pspice simulators can have difficulty converging an astable connected circuit such as the TLC555. Please make sure that before you attempt a simulation that the under Analysis > Transient Analysis that the default "Calculate Operating Point" is deselected, and "Zero Initial Values" is selected instead. That is needed even if you are only attempting a DC analysis.

I suggest you start with the TLC555/6 TINA-TI Astable Reference Design listed on the TLC555 web page. Just double click on that line listing, on the web page, and TINA should automatically open with the astable circuit.

I now just ran the TLC555 astable circuit in that manner and everything worked fine. See the screen plot shown below.
