We have two LMX2594 devices that need phase aligned outputs. During our testing, we have seen that there is always phase alignment between the two outputs of a single device, but sometimes the outputs of the two devices are 180 degrees out of phase with each other. We have checked this phase synchronization at multiple frequency outputs and the results are always the same. Erratic output where sometimes the two devices are phase aligned and sometimes they are not. Here is some data on the input
The Oscin input is exactly the same on both devices running at 10MHz and phase aligned. We are not using any of the input multiplication or division for the reference frequency. All multipliers and dividers for the frequency input are set to bypass or "1". VCO_PHASE_SYNC is set to true, and based on the SYNC flowchart, figure 27 from the datasheet, we are category 2. Even so, we still apply a SYNC pulse to both LMX devices at the same time from our FPGA on the falling edge of our Oscin input frequency which should meet the requirements for category 3. Attached is a screenshot of TICS Pro with an equivalent programming operation we are using.
