LMK05028: power consumption

Part Number: LMK05028

Dear Sirs,

we are working on a new project where we want to get a PPS disciplined clock output from a TCXO, using the TI LMK05028.

Once configured LMK via i2c the, our custom board with LMK works as expected, except for the chip power consumption which is around 1.5W.

The chip overheats and the same goes for the whole pcb.

Is there a way to reduce the power consumption? We are not using the PLL1, only the PLL2.

Attached is a schematic of the LMK circuit and the .tcs file.

Best Regards,

  • Hello,

By changing the output types to "disabled" as oppose to "LVPECL" you will definitely observe some current drop. This can be found on outputs tab of TICSPRO all in the yellow column, see image. Note image just shows it disabled for CH1 but all other CHs have this option and will have similar impact.

Dropping VDDO supply from 3.3V to 1.8V will also have some power consumption savings. But since LVCMOS output type is needed I'm assuming higher output swing is required.

    Thanks and regards,

    Amin
