CDCLVC1310: Connecting OSCILLATOR with single ended output to XIN pin

Part Number: CDCLVC1310

Hi,

We are planning to connect a single ended oscillator output to XIN pin of  CDCLVC1310. What should be done with XOUT pin? Should it be left floating or grounded? Does XIN or XOUT pins require any load capacitance?

And kindly explain in detail the difference between bypass and overdrive mode.

  • You can leave XOUT floating and connect XIN as per Figure 13.

Load capacitance is only required to match the crystal load capacitance to crystal oscillator, such as in Figure 12. Matching the load capacitance to the crystal oscillator prevents frequency inaccuracy at the oscillator output. Too much load capacitance will stop the oscillation, so it is important to match the crystal to the oscillator.

For the device datasheet, bypass means using a XTAL input on XIN/XOUT. Overdrive means using a LVCMOS input on the XIN/XOUT

    Kind regards,
    Lane
