LMX2572: Frequency range of the reference clock and RF power needed from that clock.

Hi Team,

A customer wants to know the frequency range of the reference clock of LMX2572 and the RF power needed from that clock. The FOSCin from the datasheet are 5MHz-250MHz and 5MHz-125MHz with and without doubler. Is this the frequency range of the reference clock? Is there a minimum RF power needed from the clock source to drive the device?

Hello Danilo,

Yes, this is the frequency range. The line right under this item in the datasheet describes the input voltage swing needed. Please also refer to "8.1.1 OSCin Configuration" section of the datasheet that describes VOSCin.

Hi Vibhu,

Thank you for the confirmation. Regarding the inquiry of the customer about the minimum RF power needed from the clock source to drive the device, I think the OSCin consumes very little current hence don't need much power from the clock source. Is this correct? Do we have a value of the minimum power to drive the OSCin?

Hello Danilo,

You can convert the voltage Vpp swing specified on the datasheet to a power level dBm assuming 50-ohm system.
