BQ32002: I2C BUS Time Out Function

Part Number: BQ32002

Dear TI Team

Our customer is considering BQ32002.

However, in their application, the RTC device needs a Bus Time out function (a function that clears the I2C status after a certain period of time after the power is turned off and I2C access suddenly stops).
When I check the data sheet of BQ32002, there is no description about this function.

Is it correct to recognize that BQ32002 does not have the above functions?
Also, if there is a device that has the above functions in TI's RTC product, please tell me.

Best Regards,

Y.Ottey

  • Hello Y.Ottey,

If the power is turned off, the BQ32002 transitions to battery backup power, and the I2C communication interface is disabled on the device until main power is restored. This does not sound like the feature you are describing, and I don't know of any TI RTC device which includes a feature to clear I2C status after a bus timeout. Please let me know if I am misunderstanding your question, but I believe our answer is "TI does not have an RTC which performs your desired function."

    Regards,

  • Dear Derek

    Thank you for your reply.

"If the power is turned off, the BQ32002 transitions to battery backup power, and the I2C communication interface is disabled on the device until main power is restored."

After powering off, I2C communication interface is disabled, as described in "I2C communication interface is disabled on the device until main power is restored."
At this time, I2C communication is disabled, but is the communication status not cleared and is held at I2C Status before the power was turned off?

    Regards,

  • Hi Y.Ottey,

Do you mean the device should clear an I2C status register, as in something I might find in an I2C bus master microcontroller? The BQ32002 does not have this capability.
