CDCI6214: Reference clock & default Output clock

Part Number: CDCI6214
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CDCE6214, LMK61E0-050M

Dear e2e Support,

I have some questions regarding specifications of CDCI 6214

(1) Does CDCI 6214 support Clock generator for Reference Clock?
I want to avoid to use crystal unit for reference clock.

And, could you inform me recomend Clock generator?

(2) What is Default OUTPUT clock frequency?
I want to avoid to control by I2C.
So, I want to kwon Default OUTPUT clock frequency.

    My request
Power ON -> OUTPUT 100MHz OUTPUT without controlling by I2C.

    Regards,

  • Hi there,

There's no internal reference clock in CDCI6214. The default configuration uses 25MHz crystal. All the outputs are 100MHz HCSL by default. By the way, CDCE6214 is more recommended as it's a newer part and pin compatible with CDCE6214.

    Regards,
    Hao

  • Dear Hao-san

Thank you for your quick responce.

Could you inform me more detail?

    According to your comment

    >There's no internal reference clock in CDCI6214. The default configuration uses 25MHz crystal

    Does your comment means below?

"CDCI6214 does not support Differentian Output Oscilator for reference clock."

I hope use Dirfferencial Output Oscilator for reference clock of CDCI6214.

(ex LMK61E0-050M   TI 50MHz dirfferencial output Osclator)

In this case, LMK61E0-050M is connected to No.5 and 6 pins of CDCI6214 and No.4 pin is pulled up.

    Is it impposible?

    With best regards

  • Hi,

Yes it's totally acceptable to use an external oscillator. However, in order to use the default EEPROM page 1 to generate 4x100MHz without programming, the oscillator frequency needs to be 25MHz.

You can still use 50MHz oscillator with no problem. Just need to program the device.

    Regards,

    Hao

  • Dear Hao-san

Thank you for your polite response.

    I understood detail of CDCI6214.

By the way, do you know option of appopriate 25MHz oscillator?

I could't find appropriate oscillator from among TI lineup.

    With best regards

  • Hi,

Unfortunately we don't have 25MHz oscillators as of now.

    Hao
