CDCEL9XXPROGEVM: Connection from the programmer to the customer's board with CDCE706

Hi Team,

The customer wants to buy a CDCEL9XXPROGEVM to program CDCE706. Upon checking the User's Guide of CDCEL9XXPROGEVM it seems there is no port or connector from the SMBus/I2C pins from the board. How would the customer program the CDCE706?

    Hi Danilo,

    CDCEL9XXPROGEVM does support the CDCE706, using the on-board microcontroller and the ClockPro programming software. The User's Guide indicates the proper positioning of the CDCEx06 devices in the socket, as well as the correct jumper modifications, required for programming the device.

    I feel that I should caution you at this stage: the driver signature for the USB communication bridge used on the CDCEL9XXPROGEVM has recently expired, resulting in great difficulty making the software or the EVMs work across systems with user account controls. This has led to some thorny programming experiences - please see the threads below for more info.

    Thank you for the clarification and for the caution. Since the hardware development of the customer has just started, is there any alternative device to CDCE706 for industrial applications?

    Hi Danilo,

    There are no clear functional replacements in TI's clock generator portfolio for CDCE(L)9xx and CDCEx06 - these clock generators have three integrated PLLs, while most of our other EEPROM-equipped clock generators have only one. Perhaps if we can find out more about the customer's intended use case (input/output frequencies, must-have features, etc) we could make a better proposal?
