SA555: DISCH Current Limitation

Hello all,

I want to use the SA555 in Monostable Operation with 5V supply. A typical circuit is shown in datasheet in figure 9. In this circuit, the Discharge Pin is directly connected to the capacitor of the RC network.
In this schematic no current limiting part is located between the C and the pin DISCH. Can this lead to a over current damage of the device? Shall a resistor be added here?

Hendrik,

There isn't a need to add a series protection resistor. You can add one, however this will modify the discharge timing. It couldn't hurt to add a zero ohm place holder on your board if there is a concern. But this isn't required.
