Step by Step Calculation of LMX2595 Register Values

I am working with the LMX22595 and the TICS Pro software. I was able to get the LMX2595 functioning at 16.6GHz. However, I need to come up with a design document that will show other engineers how to
derive the register values when the Evaluation Board is not available. I have downloaded technical documents and am familiar with PLL's from AD and Hetite.  The documentation for these provide a step by step method for calculating register values. While the LMX datasheet provides some information, no details are given as to how to proceed from an output frequency to individual register
values.  Like how is PLL_N calculated.  Further, I have not been able to find this information in technical literature or support blogs.

Former Case Number was CS0437729.  TI Customer support could not help me and suggested I contact you.

Your assistance would be appreciated.

  • Hi Bill,

Equations 1 and 2 in the datasheet shown how to calculate the frequencies and divider values in the loop. Yes, we don't have a step-by-step example in the datasheet as we thought this is pretty straight forward. Anyway, that's all we have in the datasheet and we don't have any other collateral to address this. Maybe you can check how we did in TICS Pro from C:\ProgramData\Texas Instruments\TICS Pro\Configurations\Devices\PLL + VCO\LMX2594.
