CDCE6214: Differences between CDCE6214 and CDCI6214

Part Number: CDCE6214
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CDCI6214,

Hi Team,

I found two similar products in clock gen for PCIE, CDCE6214 and CDCI6214. Could you tell me the differences between them?

Which do you recommend for now?

Regards,

Takashi Onawa

  • Hello Takashi,

The differences of these devices are pin 23 and pin 8 - some functionality is kept similar on these pins but named differently between these devices. The pin differences can quickly be found on the datasheet for utilization but offer the same utility. The function of these pins is not identical.

These devices are not software compatible.

The outputs of these devices are quite different as well. The output formats have changed as CDCI6214 offers CMOS outputs on outputs 2 and 3, the CDCE6214 offers CMOS outputs on outputs 1 and 4.

The HCSL outputs on the CDCI6214 must be terminated to GND through 50-Ohm resistors externally. On the CDCE6214, these resistors are internal, and no external termination is required for the LP-HCSL outputs.

Jitter performance should be slightly better on the updated CDCE6214 devices as well and should pass up to PCIe Gen 5 requirements.

Feel free to utilize the search tool provided on E2E to find other related questions about the CDCE6214 or CDCI6214 that might have been answered previously as well.

  • Hi Aaron-san,

Thanks, I understood. I will recommend E version at first to my customer.
