Hi,

I'm currently working on a POC of a spatial radar for asteroids and we will start characterization on a first prototype for end of next june.

The frequency range is [300; 2500]MHz and I've had a look on some PLL components for the global architecture.

I've identified the LMX2615-SP that could be a good candidate but for which I have a couple of questions :

1-) What is the output power at 300MHz ? 800MHz ? 2400MHz ?

2-) Is a common output matching network could be used for that broad frequency range ?

3-) The datasheet gives only closed-loop phase noise; do you have also the open-loop phase noise @10kHz offset ? frequencies of interest are 800MHz and 2400MHz.

4-) Do you confirm that it is space qualified ?

Hello Hervé,

Depends on the OUTx_PWR setting for that output, and the termination style used. With a lower bound of 300MHz, you should probably be using 50Ω pull-up instead of inductive pull-up. Considering only single-ended output power, after de-embedding PCB losses, I see the following:
Based on these results, it seems plausible that a common 50Ω network could be used across the desired frequency range. By adjusting the OUTx_PWR field in certain frequency ranges, balancing the output power is certainly possible based on the available range of OUTx_PWR adjustment.
You can use PLLatinum Sim to observe the open-loop VCO noise. Set the filter style to infinite bandwidth to get a close approximation of the VCO noise alone.
Yes, LMX2615-SP is space-qualified.
