ADS1219: Calibration

Part Number: ADS1219

Hi there,

I am reviewing the datasheet for the ADS1219, and it recommends "running an offset calibration before performing any measurements or when changing the gain or MUX settings". Now, the voltages I'm reading are in 1-2V range. Would calibration still be necessary?

Thank you for the attention and I look forward to hearing from you.

Alex

  • Hi Alex,

Some of the Delta-Sigma ADCs have an internal self-calibration command whereas the ADS1219 does not not.  It is not a requirement to remove the ADC offset, but you may want to depending on the desired level of precision.  The offset for the ADS1219 is given in the datasheet and is typically around +/- 4uV.  This is within the level of noise of the ADC at a gain of 1, so it is not likely to affect the measurement where you would notice or even effectively calibrate out.

    Best regards,
